Extensive in-home research led to deep insights about cleaning behavior and ergonomics throughout the entire house cleaning process, in which a vacuum cleaner plays a key role. Our research informed ergonomics and usability across all touchpoints, which ten led into the design of all handles, accessory design, and CMF strategy for visual prioritization. The outcome of this project has been applied to the Shark Lift-Away and Navigator vacuum cleaners since 2012.

The multi facetted handles are optimized feature optimized ergonomics for every task throughout the cleaning process, and they allow to easily switch between tasks such as upright cleaning, low cleaning and precisely navigating the vacuum cleaner around the house. The design became a blueprint of the entire Shark Vacuum cleaner Visual Design Language.

Part of the project-scope was also the redesign of the accessories, including the crevise tool and several task-specific brushes. The original design included a snap-in accessory holder, that allowed easy access to accessories whenever and whereever needed throughout the cleaning process.

The design of the handles became an integral part of Shark’s platform approach for many years. Besides the distinct form language and optimized ergonomics for various cleaning tasks, the handles feature a modular approach to allow differentiation across various models and tiers. This updated Shark vacuum cleaner design launched in the US and internationally in 2012, and has been available Online and Retailers across the country. Get yours on Amazon today!
